Hello Fellow Wayward Travelers!!!!
Today was a maintenance, driving, and museum day!
Today was a maintenance, driving, and museum day!
Let’s start with the maintenance
day!!! As I said earlier, I needed to get the truck in for an oil change, so
that’s how I started my day. I drove to the Ford Dealer’s Service Department
and got right in! Within one hour I was back on the road with the truck getting
new oil, filters, etc. and a clean bill of health for the next 5,000 miles or
when I get home --- whichever comes first!!!
I had to drive quite a ways to get
to the museum I wanted to see. The museum I had in mind was called “Michigan’s
Own Military and Space Museum”. It is located about 150 miles from where I left
the trailer, but this sounded like a really good museum. So, off I went!! I had
no problems getting there and drove straight to it. It turns out though, this
museum isn’t about military and space equipment; it’s about the people from
Michigan who had served in the military during wars and had distinguished
themselves to get very high commendations and many received The Medal of
Honor!!! As for the “Space” part, about twelve people from Michigan were
astronauts that went into space!!! Anyway, I was a little disappointed that I
couldn’t see some old military equipment, but I went through the museum anyway
and read each of the exhibits. Each exhibit was about an individual that had
distinguished themselves in combat (there were some women among all the men)
and some had even given their lives during that action!!! This museum was
really something else!!! It went back to the Spanish-American War to the
present day conflicts. As I said, it was strictly about Michigan individuals;
either born and raised in Michigan or moved here and called Michigan their
home!!! The part about the astronauts was just as good. I read so much that I
couldn’t really keep it all straight in my head and I didn’t take any photos –
I just walked from room to room and absorbed what was there!!! If any of you
get a chance to come to this area and are in the little town of Frankmuth,
Michigan, go visit this museum – it’s worth spending two or three hours of very
interesting reading!!!
Well, I left the museum at about
3:00 in the afternoon and wanted to be back at the trailer by about 6:00 PM so
that I could get a few things done before I went to bed, but that didn’t
work!!! As I am driving back, and I was an hour away from where I parked the
trailer, I got into a traffic jam!!! The freeway came to a dead stop!!! As we
crept along, we came to an exit and a few highway workers were directing some
of the cars onto the exit, but not all and no reason was given. I was in the
lane that they directed to stay on the freeway!!!??? I crept along for a few
miles and came to a flashing sign saying the freeway was blocked and that we
should find and alternate route!!!??? Of course, there was no exit around and
the nearest one looked to be about four miles in front of me!!! I had just gotten
to the exit and the freeway opened up, so I stayed on it!!! As I got past the exit,
I saw what was left of the cleanup attempts for a very big accident that looked
like it involved a semi-truck!!! Anyway, I drove the rest of the way to my trailer,
but didn’t get here until after 7:30 PM!!!
Thus, this BLOG Post has no photos and
the day didn’t go as I had planned!!! But, I still enjoyed myself!!!
So, anyway, I made it to my RV Park and have settled in for the night and I
have put together a plan for the next few days. It looks like I am done for the
night!!!
So, with that, I will go for
now, but I will see you all again tomorrow.
Again, to quote that great comedian,
Red Skelton, "Good Night and May God Bless!"
