Take a look at yesterdays BLOG Post! I updated it with more narrative and a bunch of photos!!!
As for today, It is getting late and so, I will add todays information when I stop for tomorrow. I will just say, I drove across the Mackinac Bridge in a pouring down thunderstorm in which the curb lane was awash with water. I followed a truck across and he had to go no faster than 25 MPH. I kept up just fine!!
Then I went to a peninsula that stuck into Lake Superior and went through the Shipwreck Museum. This was really cool!!!
Then I parked my trailer for the night!!
Tomorrow, I will fill in the blanks and add photos.
So, stay tuned for tomorrow's Blog Post!! I will talk to you later,
Jon!!!
Hello Fellow Wandering Travelers!!!
Here is the updated BLOG Post for 07/19/2013!!!
Today, I left the KOA RV Park just
outside Mackinaw, Michigan and drove to the Mackinac Bridge. The weather
decided to make my trip a lot more interesting!!!! It started to rain just as I
was leaving the RV Park and by the time I got to the bridge, it was coming down
so hard that the wipers could hardly keep up on the high speed and everyone had
slowed down to about 40 MPH!!! As you should know, these easterners don’t slow
down less than 80 MPH unless the cop near them is doing less than 80 MPH!!!
Anyway, I drove across the bridge with a river of water flowing down the
roadway at me as I went up and in back of me as I went down the other side!!! I
am glad I have new tires on both the truck and trailer with deep rain treads,
so the water didn’t affect me so much. I also followed a truck whose speed
limit was 35 MPH. I felt really good about that speed!!! I took photos all the
way across the bridge so you can experience the trip with me. A lot didn’t turn
out because I moved the camera (white knuckle grips on the steering wheel will
do that, you know!!!!). Anyway, here are the photos ---
Once I got across the bridge, I
found the end of US-2 and started driving west. Here are those photos!!!
Then I continued to drive on US-2
for a number of hours and then took a detour to a place called Whitefish Point,
Michigan. This is where the Shipwreck Museum and Whitefish Lighthouse are
located. This museum is dedicated to the thousands of lost lives that have
occurred on the Great Lakes. It also houses the Ship’s Bell from the most
famous and last big shipwreck on the Great Lakes --- The Edmund Fitzgerald!!!
Here are a few photos of the museum ---
From here’ I drove to my KOA
Campground in Newberry, Michigan and put everything away for the night!!!
Well, that was my day!!! Very busy, but interesting and fun. I even learned a few things!!!
