Good Night for now!!!

Hello Fellow Wandering Travelers!!!

I am back to fill in what I did as I drove to Exeter, New Hampshire. I had planned on driving to Concord, Massachusetts to see where the “Shot heard around the World” occurred!! From there I wanted to drive to Salem, Massachusetts and see the Witch Museum and then drive to my RV Park in Exeter, New Hampshire. Some things worked out and some things didn’t!!!

I drove to Concord, Massachusetts and found the Concord Museum!!! It was actually a house from the 1700s to 1800s that had been converted to a museum. More on who lived there later!!! Here are some photos of the museum ---

In the museum, it explained why Concord was the first town to fully rebel against the British (you would have thought that Boston would have been the first to violently rebel)!! What it came down to was that the “revolutionaries” were storing weapons and supplies in Concord along with training a skilled army of farmers in the ways of battle; The British found out about the weapons and went to destroy them; in searching the town, a fire was started and quickly put out, but the “minutemen” only saw the smoke and thought the British were burning the town; The “minutemen” officers refused to let the town burn and ordered their men to fire upon the British troops!!! And that’s what happened in a nut shell!!! From here I went to the area where the battle took place --- of course, the bridge was rebuilt and the area is a park, but it was cool to see. There are a number of monuments here depicting what happened. Here are a few photos ---

The Monument to the Battle itself --- and the Old North Bridge  ---

I said that I would tell you whose house the museum was once owned by --- well it was Ralph Waldo Emerson and here is a photo of his study in the house/museum ---

The town of Concord was home to a number of famous people ---

 Ralph Waldo Emerson ---

Nathanial Hawthorne ---

Henry David Thoreau ---

Louisa May Alcott (author of "Little Women") ---

Amos Bronson Alcott -Philosopher and Louisa's Father ---

Speaking of Louisa May Alcott --- her home was also a museum a few blocks away, so I went to see it! I took the tour inside the home, but I wasn’t allowed to take photos, so here is just the house ---

Then I went to Salem, Massachusetts to see the Witch Museum --- I drove all over and even called the museum, but there was no parking for an RV!!! It looked like a cool place, so before I leave the Northeast, I may go back --- We will see!!!!

Then it was off to New Hampshire and here’s a fuzzy photo to prove that I went there!!!

Well, I am done for that day and I need to get some rest, so, with that, I will go for now, but I will see you all again tomorrow.

Again, to quote that great comedian, Red Skelton, "Good Night and May God Bless!"

Happy Trails ---- Jon
