Driving Around Vermont!!!

Hello Fellow Wayward Travelers!!!!

Today was mostly a driving day!!! As I said yesterday, I wanted to see the Museum in the capitol of Vermont, which is
Montpelier. The museum is called the Vermont Historical Society Museum. It is about the only place in Vermont that I planned on stopping.

I left my RV Park in Williamstown, VT and drove west on US-2! I drove just a few miles and there I was. Of course, I could not find any parking for an RV so while parked in the high school parking lot I called the museum and asked where I could park. The lady there was so nice and did have a place about 10 minutes away where I could park – it was just up the street from the high school. I parked the truck and trailer and off I went looking for sights and adventure!!!

As I walked to the museum, I crossed over a river. As I had said before, the northeastern states have been receiving a lot of rain and last night was no exception. On the way to this museum, I passed two places where mud slides had occurred during the night. This river was so full that it looked like it was nearing flood stage!!! And all the rivers had muddy, brown water in them from all the dirt being washed away. Here is a photo of the river ---

I walked past the capitol building on my way to the museum, so I took a photo. Back east they seem to coat all their capitol domes in gold – I don’t know why, but I have seen many done this way. At first, I thought that they were churches – Greek Orthodox or something like that!!!??? Here is the photo ---

The museum looked like a grand hotel from the south!!! Here’s a photo of the front ---

I didn’t take many photos inside the museum, but it was set up from the first people in the area (cavemen) through time to the present days. I thought it was very well done. Have you ever heard of the “Green Mountain Boys”??? I seem to remember the name from TV. Well, they were the militia from the Vermont areas during the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and WWII. I thought that was quite interesting and their uniform consisted of a green coat during the Revolutionary War!!!

After the museum, I walked through town. It’s small, so it didn’t take long. I stopped at a Crêpe Restaurant and had a Seafood Crêpe that was very good (though, not as good as the ones Lynn would make!!!). Then I found two used book stores, but they really didn’t have very much nor anything that I didn’t already have.
Then I decided that it was time to go, so I stopped at a coffee shop, got a decent Mocha and took off. From there I drove on US-2 to Lake Champlain and an RV Park near South Hero, VT. The lake is big and very pretty and I get to drive up the middle of it for tomorrow until I come to Canada and the end of this part of US-2 (I will pick it up again in Mackinaw, Michigan.

If you are keeping track, I have now accomplished another of my goals --- I have now visited all the northeastern states!!! I have stayed in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. My last goal of this trip is to drive home on US Highway 2 – which I am doing as we speak!!!
Well, I am done for the day, so, with that, I will go for now, but I will see you all again tomorrow.

Again, to quote that great comedian, Red Skelton, "Good Night and May God Bless!"

Happy Trails ---- Jon
